Dorothy M. Adcock, M.D.
Medical Director of Esoterix Coagulation

Dot Adcock is Medical Director of Esoterix Coagulation and a leading expert in Coagulation. Dr. Adcock holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Prior to joining Esoterix, Dr.Adcock was employed by the Colorado Permanente Medical Group as a Staff Pathologist and previously served as Regional Departmental Chief of Pathology. Dr.Adcock holds a faculty appointment at the University of Colorado. Dr.Adcock is the chair of the Hematology Council on Continuing Education for the American Society of Clinical Pathology, Chair of the Subcommittee on Plasma Calibration for PT testing for the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards, and is an appointed member of the NCCLS Subcommittee on Coagulation. Dr.Adcock received her M.D.from Michigan State University.


Timothy M. Alcorn, Ph.D.

Tim Alcorn is Executive Director of Molecular Pathology and Business Development for Esoterix. Prior to joining Esoterix, Dr. Alcorn spent seven years at Laboratory Corporation of America. At LabCorp, he was responsible for infectious disease testing and became Director of Scientific Development. Recognized as a leading expert in the field of infectious disease, Dr. Alcorn is a member of the American Society for Microbiology, faculty member of the HIV Resistance Institute – World Health Communications, and Roche PCR advisory board since 1999. Dr.Alcorn received his Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from The Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science.


Rebbeca K Berry, Ph.D.
Director of Cytogenetics at Esoterix Oncology
Rebecca Berry is Director of Cytogenetics at Esoterix Oncology in Austin, Texas. Dr. Berry holds board certification in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. She is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and the American College of Medical Genetics. Dr. Berry received her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.


Perry Chan, Ph.D., M.Q.M.

Perry Chan is the Chief Scientific Officer of Infectious Disease for Esoterix. Dr. Chan holds certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Molecular Diagnostics, and is board eligible in Medical and Molecular Microbiology. Dr. Chan has been published in numerous journals with a focus on biochemistry and molecular biology. He received his Ph.D.in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Hong Kong and a masters degree in quality management from Loyola University in New Orleans.


D. Walt Chandler, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer for Esoterix Endocrinology
Walt Chandler is Chief Scientific Officer for Esoterix Endocrinology. Dr. Chandler has over 30 years of experience in diagnostic testing of steroid hormones and has been published in numerous professional journals. Dr. Chandler is a member of the Endocrine Society, the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, and the American Association of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Chandler is a past recipient of the National Institutes of Health Cell and Molecular Biology National Research Service Award. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles.


Kelly Y. Chun, Ph. D.
Assistant Director of Peptides for Esoterix Endocrinology
Kelly Chun is Assistant Director of Peptides at Esoterix Endocrinology. Dr.Chun is board eligible for certification in Clinical Chemistry. She is a member of the American Chemical Society, American Association of Clinical Chemistry, American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Harvard Biotechnology Club. Dr. Chun received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.


Wendy L. Flejter, Ph. D.
Director of Cytogenetics at Esoterix Oncology
Wendy Flejter is Director of Cytogenetics at Esoterix Oncology. Dr. Flejter has 20 years of experience in clinical cytogenetics and 14 years of experience in human molecular genetic research. Dr. Flejter holds board certification in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. She received her Ph.D in Human Genetics at the University of Maryland in Baltimore and completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan Human Genome Center.


Russell P. Grant, Ph. D.
Director of Mass Spectrometry at Esoterix Endocrinology
Russell Grant is Director of Mass Spectrometry at Esoterix Endocrinology. Dr. Grant has over ten years experience in mass spectrometry testing and analysis for pharmaceutical drug discovery and development. Prior to Esoterix, Dr. Grant was a Technical Manager and Senior Scientist for Eli Lilly Canada. He received his Ph.D. in Chromatographic and Mass Spectrometric Techniques from Swansea University in Singleton Park, Swansea,West Glam.


Karine Hovanes, Ph.D.
Director of Molecular Endocrinology
Karine’ Hovanes is the Director of Molecular Endocrinology for Esoterix. Dr. Hovanes has ten years of experience in research for molecular genetics, and has a patent for the method of detection and treatment of colon cancer. She is board eligible in Clinical Molecular Genetics from the American Board of Medical Genetics. Dr. Hovanes received her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of California, Irvine.


C.V. Jacob, Ph. D.
Laboratory Director of Infectious Disease
Dr. Jacob is the Laboratory Director of Infectious Disease for Esoterix. He holds board certification as a Clinical Laboratory Director from the American Board of Bioanalysis and is board eligible in Clinical Immunology. Dr. Jacob is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Society of Microbiology, the American Public Health Association, the American Society of Clinical Pathology, the American Association of Immunologists, and the American Association of Bioanalysis. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Louisville.


Cynthia S. Johns, M.S. A., M.T. (ASCP) S.H.
Laboratory Manager of Esoterix Coagulation
Cindy Johns is Laboratory Manager of Esoterix Coagulation. Ms. Johns is an appointed member of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Advisory Committee, Centers for Disease Control. A frequent speaker in the field of coagulation testing, Ms. Johns conducts workshops and seminars for the American Society for Clinical Pathology and many other education programs throughout the country. Ms. Johns received her B.S.in Medical Technology from Michigan State University and her M.S.A.in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University.


Patricia L. Kandalaft, M.D.
Staff Surgical Pathologist for Esoterix Oncology
Patricia Kandalaft, Staff Surgical Pathologist for Esoterix Oncology, holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Dr. Kandalaft began her medical career with a combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at the University of Michigan Medical Center and Northwestern University Affiliate, Evanston Hospital. Performing a surgical pathology fellowship, she trained with Hector Battifora, M.D. at the City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte, California, with a heavy emphasis on tumor pathology and diagnostic immunohistochemistry. Dr. Kandalaft received her M.D. from the University of Missouri.

Technical Director of Esoterix Allergy and Asthma
Gary Kitos is Technical Director of Esoterix Allergy and Asthma. Prior to joining Esoterix, Dr. Kitos owned Allergy Testing Laboratory, one of the nation’s largest allergy laboratories. With over 20 years of experience in diagnostic allergy and immunology, Dr. Kitos is regarded as one of the nation’s leading authorities in the field of RAST testing. Dr. Kitos received his Ph.D.in Biophysics from Syracuse University and was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research Drug Development program.


Ronald V. Lee, M.D.
Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology
Ronald Lee, Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology, holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and is board certified in Hematopathology. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists. Dr. Lee is a graduate of the University of Florida School of Medicine and completed his residency in pathology and fellowship in hematopathology under the mentorship of Raul Braylan, M.D., a world-renowned expert in hematopathology and flow cytometric analysis.

Jerome McCombs is Director of Cytogenetics at Esoterix Oncology in Austin, Texas. Dr. McCombs holds board certification in Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. He is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics and the American Board of Medical Genetics. Dr.McCombs received his Ph.D. in Physiology/Genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Perran McDaniel is General Manager of Esoterix Oncology in San Diego, California. He has over 30 years experience in the clinical laboratory industry with 13 years experience in flow cytometry. He has been published on numerous occasions in journals such as Clinical and Applied Immunology Reviews. Mr. McDaniel is a member of the International Society for Analytical Cytology and Clinical Cytometry of ISAC. He is a graduate of San Diego State University and did an internship in medical technology at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California.


Ronald C. McGlennen, M.D.
Medical Director of Esoterix Molecular Genetics
Ron McGlennen is Medical Director of Esoterix Molecular Genetics in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. McGlennen holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Molecular Genetics. Concurrently, Dr. McGlennen serves as Associate Professor of Pathology at the University of Minnesota. Dr. McGlennen is a member of the American Society of Human Genetics, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists, associate member of the University of Minnesota Cancer Center, fellow of the College of American Pathologists, and Chair of the Genetics Program Committee of the Association of Molecular Pathologists. Dr. McGlennen received his M.D. from the University of Minnesota Medical School, where he was awarded a Post-sophomore Fellowship in Pathology by the University. He was also awarded a National Cancer Institute Medical Scientist Summer Training Fellowship.


David T. Miller, M.D, Ph.D.

David Miller, Staff Pathologist for Esoterix, has over 20 years of experience in the development and implementation of diagnostic applications for clinical pathology with over ten years focused in flow cytometry. Dr. Miller holds board certification in Clinical Pathology. Dr. Miller is a member of the International Society for Analytical Cytology and the American Association of Blood Banks. Dr. Miller was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and his M.D. from the University of Nebraska.


Debra M. Mitchell Nelson, M.D.

Debra Nelson, Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology, holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. Dr. Nelson is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, and Florida Medical Association. Dr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Faculty of Medicine, and completed her residency in pathology and fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Florida under the mentorship of Raul Braylan, M.D., a world-renowned expert in hematopathology and flow cytometric analysis.

Joseph Papiez, Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology, holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. He is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists and Florida Medical Association. Dr. Papiez earned his M.D. at the Indiana School of Medicine. Kenneth J. Pennline, Ph.D.
Executive Director of Scientific Affairs
Ken Pennline is Executive Director of Scientific Affairs for Esoterix. Dr. Pennline is a member of the Society for Analytical Cytology, the American Association of Immunologists, the American Society for Microbiology, and the Drug Information Association. He has been published in numerous journals including Cytometry, Journal of Clinical Immunology, Immunopathology, Immunopharmacology, and Methods in Molecular Biology. Dr. Pennline received his Ph.D. in Immunology from The Ohio State University and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship program in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Georgetown University,Washington,D.C.


Norman B. Purvis, Jr., Ph.D.
Director of Analytical Systems
Norman Purvis is the Director of Analytical Systems for the Esoterix Center for Innovation.  Dr. Purvis is a member of the International Society for Analytical Cytology, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Biomedical Engineering Society. He has been published in the fields of engineering, flow cytometry, standardization, and quantification techniques.  His research efforts have focused on the development of new quantitative flow cytometric standardization techniques and novel quantitative flow cytometric assays.   Dr. Purvis is also intimately engaged in the development of innovative approaches to laboratory automation for improving sample preparation and analysis at all Esoterix laboratories.    Dr. Purvis received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University.


Rajeev Ramanathan, Ph.D.
Scientific Director for Esoterix Coagulation
Rajeev Ramanathan is Scientific Director for Esoterix Coagulation. Prior to joining Esoterix, Dr. Ramanathan was Director of Core Technologies for SyStemix/GTI, a Novartis Company. Dr. Ramanathan has over 25 years of research and testing experience managing analytical methods, bioassays, and flow cytometry. He has authored numerous publications in professional journals, including Blood and Cancer Research. Dr. Ramanathan received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.


Robert W. Sharpe, M.D.
Medical Director for Esoterix Oncology
Robert Sharpe is the Medical Director for Esoterix Oncology in San Diego, California. Concurrently, Dr. Sharpe serves as a staff hematopathologist at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego. He holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. He came to Esoterix from the Naval Hospital/Medical Center where he was a staff hematopathologist. Presently, Dr. Sharpe is the Associate Clinical Professor of Pathology at the University of California, San Diego. In addition, Dr. Sharpe is an Adjunct Professor of Pathology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Sharpe earned his M.D. from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He subsequently did his residency in pathology and fellowship in hematopathology at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

Keith Shults is Director of Advanced Cytometric Applications for the Esoterix Center for Innovation. Mr. Shults was a co-founder of Cytometry Associates, now Esoterix Oncology, and integral in the development of CD45 gating for flow cytometry. Mr. Shults was awarded the Wallace Coulter Career Achievement award in 2001, and is an internationally recognized expert in the commercialization of complex cytometry assays. Mr. Shults is a member of the International Society of Analytical Cytology, the Clinical Laboratory Management Association, American Association of Bio-Analysts, and the subcommittee for DNA standards for the National Conference of Clinical Laboratory Scientists.


Gregory T. Stelzer, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Greg Stelzer is Chief Scientific Officer of Esoterix. Dr.Stelzer was a co-founder of Cytometry Associates, now Esoterix Oncology, and integral in the development of CD45 gating for flow cytometry. Dr. Stelzer was awarded the Wallace Coulter Career Achievement award in 2001. Nationally recognized as a thought leader in the field of diagnostic flow cytometry, Dr. Stelzer was co-organizer of the 1995 National Cancer Institute Consensus Conference on the use of Flow Cytometry for the Analysis of Leukemia and Lymphoma. He received his Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Louisville.


Mark Stene, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Vice President of Laboratory Services Operations
Mark Stene is Vice President of Laboratory Services Operations for Esoterix. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Stene is one of the country’s leading experts in the field of endocrinology testing. As a laboratory scientist, Dr.Stene developed numerous state-of-the-art endocrine tests for clinical and pharmaceutical clients. He has been a recent speaker at both the Standardization meeting of the Growth Hormone Research Society and the Growth Hormone Task Force – Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrinology Society. Dr. Stene is a member of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society Corporate Advisory board, the Endocrine Society, and the American Diabetes Association. He received his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology from the University of California, Los Angeles along with an M.B.A. from the Anderson School of Business Administration.


Elizabeth Stone, B.S., M.T. (ASCP)
Manager of Oncology Technical Support
Elizabeth Stone is Manager of Oncology Technical Support for Esoterix. Ms. Stone has 12 years experience in flow cytometry and oncology diagnostics. She has taught applications of flow cytometry at an international course on clinical cytometry at Northwestern University Medical School. Ms. Stone serves on the Clinical Cytometry Society council, whose purpose is to support and maintain the highest level of quality and advancement of clinical applications in flow cytometry. She received her B.S. in microbiology and her ASCP medical technology certification at the University of Alabama.


Wlodek Szczarkowski, M.D.
Staff Pathologist
Wlodek Szczarkowski, Staff Pathologist for Esoterix, is one of the nation’s leading experts in flow cytometry with over 100,000 reviewed cases. Dr. Szczarkowski is responsible for developing and implementing flow cytometry testing and maintaining Esoterix’s high standards in data interpretations and quality assurance. Dr. Szczarkowski was a participant in the 1995 National Cancer Institute Consensus Conference on the Use of Flow Cytometry for the Analysis of Leukemia and Lymphoma. Dr. Szczarkowski received his medical degree from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He completed his residency in clinical pathology at Berkshire Medical Center in Massachusetts and completed fellowships in hematopathology at Harvard University and William Beaumont Hospital. Additionally, Dr. Szczarkowski completed a molecular pathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.


John A. Taddie, Ph.D.
Director and General Manager of Long Beach Genetics
John Taddie is Director and General Manager of Long Beach Genetics, Esoterix’s parentage testing laboratory, in Los Angeles, CA.  Dr. Taddie has 20 years of experience in molecular biology, including seven years of parentage testing.  He has testified as an expert in numerous civil and criminal trials in cases of child support, estate claims, immigration, welfare fraud, incest, sexual assault, and homicide.  Dr. Taddie is a member of the International Society for Forensic Genetics and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), and currently serves on the AABB Parentage Testing Standards Committee.  He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Cornell University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Salk Institute in San Diego, CA.


Ronald W. Thomason, M.D.
Medical Director for Esoterix Oncology
Ronald Thomason is the Medical Director for Esoterix Oncology in Brentwood, Tennessee and West Palm Beach, Florida. Dr. Thomason holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. He received a Doctor of Medicine with highest honors from the University School of Medicine in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Thomason completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and participated in a hematopathology fellowship directed by Peter Banks, M.D. at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.


Patricia Uherova, M.D.
Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology
Patricia Uherova, Staff Hematopathologist for Esoterix Oncology, holds board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Hematopathology. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists, and Michigan Society of Pathologists. Dr. Uherova earned her M.D. at Charles University, IIIrd Medical School in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Dr. Uherova completed her residency in Pathology at the University of Michigan and completed hematopathology fellowships at both the University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University.
